He is a professor at the Desert Research Center in Egypt. He joined our research group as a visiting professor in the fall semester of 2025 to work on the membrane-desalination project.​

Dr. Ali received his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Science at Azhar University, Egypt in 2014. In 2015, he completed a 4-month STDF-funded award in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. After graduation, he started to work at the Desert Research Center, in Egypt. In 2022, He was a Fulbright visiting scholar in the School of Sustainable and the Built Environment at Arizona State University.​

He has over 70 research and review articles in leading periodicals on Desalination, Water Treatment, and Nanocomposite Membranes. He has served as a PI and Co-PI of 18 research projects in collaboration with Arizona State University, Rice University, Strathclyde University, Tianjin University, and Canterbury Christ Church University. He is a member of Egypt's National Committee on Advanced Nanomaterials and the Nonconventional Water Resources Network. He also worked as a lead guest editor for Membrane Journal and a reviewer for more than 20 journals, such as ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Chemical Engineering Research, and Design.
