Firehiwot Getahun Melaku

Firehiwot is a master's student in the Department of Environmental Engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health Science from Arba Minch University in 2021, and a Master of Public Health in Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety from Addis Ababa University in 2024, Ethiopia.
During her master's program, her thesis investigated the detection of lead and cadmium, and their effects on the renal function of automobile repair workers. Before joining UND, Firehiwot worked as a lecturer and researcher at Arba Minch University. Her current research interests include the treatment of emerging contaminants, water, and wastewater treatment.
Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Firehiwot enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her family.
