Mahmut Selim Ersan, Ph.D.
Principle Investigator
Dr. Ersan is an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND). He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences from Clemson University in 2017. Prior to joining UND, he held the position of Assistant Research Professor at the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at Arizona State University. Dr. Ersan has accumulated more than 17 years of experience in the detection and control of emerging contaminants, specifically focusing on DBPs and PFAS, in water, wastewater, and water reuse applications.

He is the father of one girl and one boy. Among his favorite hobbies are hiking, camping, fishing, and cycling. He is proficient in playing several instruments, including the clarinet, bamboo flute (nay), and guitar. In addition to his other interests, he is also a scientific scuba diver.
